- Verification Skills: Proficiently use a lensometer to verify prescription accuracy, lens orientation, and optical center placement against original orders.
- Frame Alignment & Adjustment: Demonstrate the ability to align and adjust frames—including vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt, and face form—to correct patient discomfort or blurry vision.
- Progressive Lens Troubleshooting: Identify specific issues with progressive addition lenses (PALs), such as incorrect segment height or insufficient reading area access.
- Patient Communication: Develop skills to effectively question patients to differentiate between adaptation issues, such as distorted peripheral vision, and genuine prescription errors.
- ANSI Standards Compliance: Apply American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards to evaluate whether lenses meet acceptable tolerances.
